The NBL24 season is alive and well, with a number of teams beginning to stake their claim to the title in the early parts of the season.
Extra Time takes you through the current stat leaders for the major metrics in the opening month and a half of the season.
Points Per Game
Nathan Sobey is enjoying a fantastic NBL24 so far for the Brisbane Bullets.
Averaging his highest points average since the 2020-21 season, Sobey is shooting 40% from the field and a fantastic 97% from the free throw line in his six games played.
Closely following Sobey is NZ Breakers’ star guard Parker Jackson-Cartwright.
Jackson-Cartwright is averaging 21 PPG in his first three games of his first season in the NBL, shooting the ball at a fantastic 54%.
He is also distributing the ball at an elite level, with his six assists a game ranked among the top three in the league.
Rebounds Per Game
Alan Williams has enjoyed a fantastic return to the SE Melbourne Phoenix after missing their opening four matches.
Despite playing just the two games, Williams is averaging a league high 9.5 rebounds, using his size and physical presence under the ring.
He is also averaging 18 PPG, and is helping keep the Breakers in the play-in spots.
Melbourne United’s Ariel Hukporti has been relishing his increased role in the NBL24 season.
A Next Star of the NBL, Hukporti is averaging 9.4 rebounds and has proven a massive asset in the absence of Jo Lual-Acuil Jr.
Assists Per Game
In his 5th season in the NBL, Will McDowell-White is continuing to prove a master facilitator for the Breakers.
Averaging 6.5 assists over his two games, McDowell-White’s presence in the Breakers backcourt will be instrumental in taking his team through to the play-in tournament.
Patrick Miller has been ultra-important to the hot start of the Cairns Taipans.
Averaging 6.3 assists to go with 19.7 points, Miller is putting together his case as one of the best players in the competition and leading his team as strong as any.
Blocks Per Game
Despite a delayed start to the NBL24 season, Melbourne United's Jo Lual-Acuil Jr is still proving to be a defensive force for oppositions.
Averaging 2.5 blocks to begin the season, JLA will be one of the most important aspects to the United title charge for 2024.
Tyrell Harrison is enjoying a career-best season so far for the Brisbane Bullets.
In his 7th NBL season, Harrison has been rock solid defensively, averaging 1.8 blocks with 6.7 rebounds.
Steals Per Game
Parker Jackson-Cartwright (there he is again) isn’t just a weapon on the offensive end, but a menace on the defensive side of the ball as well.
He is averaging an incredible four steals a game in his opening three matches, highlighted by incredible five and six steal efforts against Melbourne United and the Cairns Taipans respectively.
Another Bullets player on these lists, Shannon Scott has had a fantastic season on the defensive end.
Averaging 3.2 steals, he is up on his averages from last season with the Taipans and is essential in the backcourt for the Bullets title charge.
