By Connor Stewart

In the last two nights in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the Indian Premeir League held their auction which allows to team to bid on every player that did not get reatined or picked up in the 2024 IPL campaign. Aussies fared really well with 13 players getting picked up by the same franchise or a different franchise. Day 1 of the auction seven Australians got sold for an IPL team and six on day two.

Josh Hazelwood (RCB)

The Australian test fast bowler Josh Hazlewood got brought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore for $2.29 Million dollars and he will be playing with the great Virat Kohli. In 2022 Hazelwood played for RCB In T20 Internationals Hazelwood averages 22.10 with the ball and Hazelwood form in this years T20 World Cup definitely became a factor for his prioce tag. Josh Hazelwood was the highest Australian cricket player auctioned off in this years IPL Auction.

Mitch Starc (DC)

Last year Mitchell Starc was the highest paid player in the IPL but after a poor season, the Kolkata Knight Riders decided not to reatin him becasue of his $4.43 Million dollar contract was too much for them to take. One year later the Australian left arm bowler has found a new home with the Delhi Capitals who payed him $2.15 Million dollars, whioch is a $2 Million dollar pay cut, however the IPL has proven if have a great season your price tag can go up.

Marcus Stoinis (PBKS) The Australian All-Rounder Marcus Stoinis was brought by the Punjab Kings night one of the IPL Auction. Marcus Stoinis had a incredible 2024 IPL campaign with scoring 388 runs including a hundred, but the Lucknow Super Giants did not reatain him. Jake Fraser-McGurk (DC)

The young and dynamic opener was retained in the IPL Auction by Delhi Capitals. Jake Fraser-McGurk made a name for himself in the BBL for the Melbourne Renegades. In 2024 JFM did not have an IPL contract but in the T20 competion in Abu Duabi for the Dubai Capitals he proved that he belonged in this style of cricket and Delhi pounched by signing him on minimum contract. The 22 year old played 9 games in this years IPL scoring 330 runs and making 4 half centuries opening the batting. Fraser Mcgurk got reatined by Delhi for $1.65 Million dollars after they used one of their right to match tokens.

Glenn Maxwell (PBKS)

The Punjab Kings have got their second Australian Player in "the big show" Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell has proved himself as one of the greatest all rounders the game has ever senn in T20 Cricket history. Glenn Maxwell got brought by the Punjab Kings for $770,000 thousand dollars which is low for a player like him, however Maxwell form in T20's has been below par and justifies the price tag, yet it could be a bargain buy if he can score runs and take wickets.

Mitch Marsh (LSG)

The Australian test all-rounder Mitch Marsh has changed franchises, going from Delhi Capitals now to the Lucknow Super Giants to be coached by former Australia Test Coach Justin Langer. Mitch Marsh got injured during this years IPL campaign which is dissapointing becasue of how dynamic he can be with the bat and ball. Marsh ended up getting briught for $623,000 thousand dollars.

Adam Zampa (SH)

The Runners up from the 2024 IPL has now got 3 Australians in their squad with Adam Zampa getting auctioned to the Sunrisers Hyderbad to join opener Travis Head and Captain Pat Cummins. Zampa is one of the best leg spinners in the world especially in T20's. Sunrisers Hyderbad retained Cummins and Head after the 2024 IPL campaign becasue of how well they played. Hyderbad in the 2024 season really lacked a world class spinner so now they have got one in Adam Zampa who can really spin and get the ball to do a lot of things especially on the pitches that are used in the IPL. Zampa took 2024 IPL campaign of becasue he was tired and exhausted due to the ammount of games he was playing. Zampa was the last Australian to be taken from day 1 of the IPL Auction.

Day 2 of the IPL Auction and the first Australian selected was Wicket-Keeper Batter Josh Inglis to the Punjab Kings to join Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis. In recent months Inglis has been Australia's number one choice over Alex Carey in the ODI'S and T20'S. Tim David (RCB)

Royal Challengers Banaglore will have 2 Australians in their squad with Tim David joining fellow Australian Josh Hazelwood. David has played for the Mumbai Indians for the past 3 seasons and in 2022 got paid $1.5 Million dollars which has not been a great purchase based on David up and down form in the IPL in recent seasons. Tim David will return to the first IPL Franchise that he played for RCB where he played one game in 2021. David is a powerful batter in the middle order who can really put on a show in the late overs of a T20 innings. David was brought for $547,00 thousand dollars by RCB.

Spencer Johnson (KKR)

Nathan Ellis (CSK)

The Chennai Super Kings decided to buy fast-bowler Nathan Ellis for $365 thousand dollars. Ellis has made a name for himself in the Big Bash League playing for the Hobart Hurricanes and he was also part of the T20 Squad for Australian in the T20 world cup and played a couple of games during the tournament. Ellis played for the Punjab Kings in this years IPL, however only played one game and now has found a new home in Chennai with MS Dhoni and hopefully gets more game time.

Aaron Hardie (PBKS)

The Young Western Australian Aaron Hardie is joining the Punjab Kings for next years IPL Campaign after getting brought for $228,000 thousand dollars. Hardie has proven himself a decent cricketer playing for Australia in the T20's, but he has not been given a real change to really show what he can do with the bat or ball becasue of how stacked the T20 squad is for Australia. Aaron Hardie made a name for himself playing for WA and the Perth Scorchers in the BBL, and hopefully the 2025 IPL campaign can really show us what Hardie can do.

Xavier Bartlett (PBKS)

This now makes it 5 Australians in the squad for the Punjab Kings with the purchase of Xavier Bartlett for $146,000 thousand dollars. Bartlett joins Stoinis, Maxwell, Hardie, and Inglis and not to mention the head coadch for the Kings is Ricky Ponting. Bartlett has proved himself playing for the Brisbane Heat in the BBL. Bartlett has played a few games for Australia, however it is hard to get a game becasue of the depth of fast bowlers that Australia have in T20's. Bartlett hopefully gets to prove himself in the IPL that he can becasue a consistent player for Australia.
