Aussie Dyson Daniels stuffs the stat-sheet yet again as his Hawks fall to the Pistons 104-114

The young Hawks guard is having a career defining season for Atlanta in his third year in the NBA since being traded from New Orleans mid-way through July last year. Daniels was a part of a trade that saw the Pelicans lose Daniels, Larry Nance Jr, and two first round picks, in order to acquire 2022 NBA All-Star Dejounte Murray, from the Hawks.

Daniels led the Hawks today with a team-high 20 points, and 10 rebounds, along with 2 assists as his side fell to the Pistons by 10 points.

Daniels is enjoying an incredible patch of form particularly on the defensive end as he leads the entire NBA in steals per game at 3.0. The 21-year-old is also miles ahead of the competition in terms of total deflections per game vs totals steals, as the following graphics provides a visual representation of his defensive talents.

Daniels, who is relishing his new role at Atlanta, said in an interview with Jake Fischer last month that his former team is “cursed” and he is happy he is “no longer on that team.”

His former Pelicans, led by Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, who clearly got the worst of the trade, currently have the second lowest record in the Western Conference and fifth worst in the NBA. Whereas, Daniels and his Hawks are currently placed 7th in the Eastern Conference with a large chance to feature in the playoffs this season.

Daniels, a product from Bendigo in Victoria who was scouted through the NBA’s Global Academy is now averaging a career-high 13.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 3 steals per game.
