Melbourne Renegades Power Surge past the Brisbane Heat to win their first Ever WBBL Title

The Melbourne Renegades have won the 10th editon of the Women's Big Bash League for the first time in a rain effected game against the Brisbane Heat by 7 runs at the MCG. Melbourne Renegades player and West Indies superstar Hayley Matthews won player of the match in the final after scoring 69 runs with the bat and also having bowling figures of 2-24 off 3 overs.

The Brisbane Heat won the toss and elected to bowl and at the start of the game it looked like a great decison as they took three early wickets including the big wicket of Renegades captain Sophie Molineux for just 6 runs and also got West Indies star Deandra Dottin out run out for a diamond duck. Georgia Wareham and Hayley Matthews made a 41 run partnership before Wareham got dismmised and then Matthews and and Naomi Stalenberg made a 45 run partnership to give the Renegades a competive total of 9-141 off their 20 overs. The pick of the bowlers for the Brisbane Heat was Charli Knott having figures of 3-28 off 4 overs and Grace Parsons having 2-29 off her 4 overs.

It was time for the Brisbane Heat to chase down 141 to win the final. Things did not go to plane with the Heat losing their 2 superstar players in Grace Harris and Jemimah Rodrigiues in the first 2 overs of their batting innings. Then the rain hit at the MCG in which it forced a rain delay for 20-25 minutes and reduced the game to 12 overs and moderated the target to 98 runs. to chase down to win the 10th edition of the Women's Big Bash league. After the raon delay the heat lost 3 wickets including lsoing 2 wickets in 2 balls by none other than Hayley Matthews. The Brisbane Heat tried to fight back with a gutsy knock of 44 off 28 balls including 5 fours and 1 six by Jessica Jonassen, but in the end it was not enough with the Renegades prevailing as champions. The Melbourne Renegades became the first team in WBBL history to finsih last to the following year becoming WBBL Champions.
