Another injury blow for Western Bulldogs

By Kane Imeson

The Western Bulldogs have been dealt yet another injury blow, with defender Liam Jones ruled out for 8-10 weeks after suffering a high-grade hamstring strain.

Jones sustained the injury during an intra-club match at the club’s pre-season camp on the Sunshine Coast, undergoing scans which confirmed the extent of the veteran’s injury.

Jones will now miss the Indigenous All-Stars game on February 15, after being named in the 31 man squad on Monday, and the Bulldogs' early season games.

The injury is another big blow to the Dog’s 2025 preparations, having already lost Adam Treloar and Jason Johannisen for the early rounds, whilst ruckman Tim English is battling an abdominal injury, though is expected to play in the Bulldogs’ practice matches.

Jones has been a dominant force in the backline since returning to the Kennel in 2023, finishing in the top five in the Charles Sutton Medal (best and fairest award) two years in a row.

His absence in the early part of the season will leave a hole in the Dogs’ defence, which is likely to be filled by Rory Lobb, who made the switch to the backline in the middle of last season, and Buku Khamis, who has been on the fringe for the last few seasons, but could have more opportunities in 2025.

The Western Bulldogs officially kick off their 2025 season in Round 1 against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Saturday, March 15 at 7:35pm.
