AFL: Unofficial match simulation schedule announced

By Kane Imeson

The 2025 AFL season is nearly upon us.

As the 18 clubs ramp up their preparations for the upcoming season, most will take part in unofficial match simulation sessions, which will take place prior to the AAMI Community Series.

These match simulations will see a number of players take to the field wearing new colours for the first time, with some even coming up against their former sides.

The Western Bulldogs and Essendon will kick off the match simulations on Saturday, February 15, whilst traditional rivals Geelong and Hawthorn, along with West Coast and Richmond will play on Monday the 17th.

The Gold Coast Suns will be hosting both Collingwood and the reigning premiers, Brisbane, in what will be a three-way match simulation on Thursday, February 20.

The three-way match simulation format will see each club play each other for two quarters.

The New South Wales and South Australian based clubs won’t have to travel far. The Sydney Swans will host GWS at 10am on Friday the 21st, whilst Adelaide take on Port Adelaide later that evening.

On Saturday the 22nd, the final match simulations will see both Carlton and North Melbourne return to their traditional homes, taking on St Kilda and Melbourne, respectively.

For Fremantle, it will be a slightly different start to the 2025 season, as they take on the Indigenous All Stars at Optus Stadium on Saturday the 15th of February.

This match will see the Dockers taking on the likes of Charlie Cameron, Bobby Hill and Kysaiah Pickett, as well as their star recruit Shai Bolton and captain Alex Pearce, all of whom will be lining up for the Indigenous All Stars.

The AAMI Community Series (official practice matches) commence on Tuesday, February 25.
